It Started With a Little Girl
I remember when my daughter was little and helped me come up with the name Colorful Therapy. She was just a child, and I asked her what I should name my business. At the time, neither of us knew how much that simple moment would mean years later.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with children of all ages. As a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant, I worked in schools serving students from Pre-K through high school. While I enjoyed every age group, I found myself increasingly drawn to early childhood development and the foundational years that shape a child's future.
Over the years, I earned degrees, certifications, and professional experiences that strengthened my understanding of child development. These opportunities taught me the importance of evidence-based practices, developmental assessments, and family-centered support.
But if I'm honest, some of the most meaningful lessons haven't come from a textbook, training, or certification.
They have come from children.
Even today, that same daughter who helped name my business continues to inspire me. She'll review my website, share ideas, and offer feedback. Sometimes she sees things from a perspective I would have never considered.
Those moments leave me in awe.
They remind me that development is not just about milestones, assessments, or intervention plans. It's about relationships. It's about curiosity. It's about seeing the world through a child's eyes and recognizing the strengths, ideas, and potential that exist within every child.
I am grateful for my education and professional journey, but I am even more grateful that my work remains rooted in the values that matter most: family, connection, and a genuine belief that every child has something valuable to teach us.
Looking back, it's fitting that Colorful Therapy was named by a child.
After all, children have always been at the heart of the mission.
